Analyzing Literary Devices:

  1. Understanding Plot.The plotis the sequence of events in a literary work. Draw and fill in a plot diagram that includes an exposition (3 details), rising action (5 details), climax (1 detail), falling action (1 detail), and finally, the denouement/resolution (1 detail). Identify these aspects of the story by plotting them on a plot diagram.
  2. Analyzing Characterization. Often times in stories, protagonists demonstrate heroic qualities. Which heroic qualities (if any) does Rainsford possess?
  3. Analyzing Conflict.The conflictin a story is the major problem in the story.
    1. Describe an example of internal conflict in the story.
    2. Describe an example of external conflict in the story.
  4. Analyze Foreshadowing. The author uses the technique of foreshadowingthroughout the story. Choose two examples of foreshadowing and explain how the author uses these examples to develop the story.
